Insurance
Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for services to be covered in full or in part. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services.
I’d recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:
Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?
Insurances that I currently accept:
Aetna
Medical Associates Health Choices
Cigna
Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield (IA)
**By late spring/early summer I should be able to accept IA Medicare, United Health Care, and Tricare
Payments
If I do not accept your insurance provider, I can accept cash, check and all major credit cards as forms of payment.
Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. Otherwise, you may be charged $50 Late Cancellation/No Show fee.
Good Faith Estimate
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost
Under the law, health care providers need to provide an estimate of the bill for medical items and service to any patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs such as session fees, medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Your health care provider has a duty to provide you with a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical services. You may also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
If you receive a bill that is $400 or more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may dispute the bill.
Please retain a copy of your Good Faith Estimate for future reference. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises
Is therapy right for me?
I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or a family member?
The difference is between someone who can do something and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way (i.e. teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself). Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business”. Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
While medication can sometimes be effective, it alone cannot solve all your mental health issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with therapy and other services. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

FAQ
Making the choice to start therapy is a very personal decision. There are many reasons why people choose to start therapy. Sometimes it is to deal with long-standing psychological issues, or problems with anxiety or depression. Other times it is in response to unexpected changes in one’s life such as a divorce or work transition or entering into a new phase in life. Many seek therapy as a way to pursue their own personal exploration and growth as well. Working with a therapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all types of life challenges. Therapy can help address many types of issues including depression, anxiety, conflict, grief, stress management, and general life transitions. Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their life by taking responsibility, creating greater self-awareness, and working towards change in their lives.
Not at all. People who choose to ask for help when they feel they need it and have the courage to reach out are stronger than most. Everyone needs help from time-to-time. In our work together, I will help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
Since every person has different issues and goals for therapy, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to meet each person’s specific needs. With that being said, therapy is not just what you talk about and what you learn when you are in my office. I feel that to truly make progress and reach your goals in therapy, show up for your sessions, be present while there, and if work is needed between sessions, put the effort in to do that.
Unfortunately, I can not give you a specific answer for the length of services. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling and wellness support can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place.
I am so glad that you are dedicated to getting the most out of your time and sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
